Keertan Kaur Rehal married Nirvair Singh Gill on 10th August 2019, in Sheffield. They share the same passions, values and goals, but individually have a very varied life, which includes both supporting Nirvair’s sporting interests, and Keertan’s musical background as an Indian Classical Vocalist. Keertan described the proposal as “extremely overwhelming”. She says: “Nirvair created the illusion that we were attending a photography exhibition at a luxury hotel in North Yorkshire. When we arrived, we were ushered into a private cinema room where Nirvair had created a movie montage of pictures and videos capturing our best moments. Once this finished, he popped the question with our photographer (Bhavna) capturing the reaction!”.
“Nirvair wanted a Sherwani that reflected his style, and wore a Sabyasachi, dark-green Sherwani with hand-painted Indian figurines. As Hyderabad, the city of pearls, is close to my heart, I chose to add pearl work to my dupatta and skirt for an elegant, yet regal look.”
Wedding Day
“We chose Sheffield Gurdwara for our wedding ceremony. Here, we could comfortably host our guests, and bring Raagis of our choice, which was of great importance to us. Decorations wise, we chose simple red and pink roses to surround the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and decorate the tables. When we were announced as husband and wife the feeling was - unexplainable. It was also the most certain we had ever been. For us, the religious ceremony was the most important and biggest highlight of our wedding. It was also the most tranquil and serene experience - complete bliss.”
Reception
“Majestic Hotel is filled with character from high ceilings to big chandeliers. At the reception, we created a memory table to remember those who sadly weren’t with us. Our florist worked with us to create a special area where we could happily spend a few moments looking at photos and sharing memories...”
Post-wedding memories
“A month later, we started our Honeymoon journey in Amritsar at the Golden Temple for blessings for our new
chapter. We then travelled to Sri Lanka and Bali, and our trip was filled with memories that will last a lifetime. The best advice we can give to a couple, is to plan with plenty of time, avoid stressing over small details, and always make time for yourselves as a couple. We stuck to what we both wanted, and we couldn’t be happier!”
