Paying tribute to the age-old craft and hand woven techniques, these five Bollywood brides opted to dress in heirloom drapes on their big day and needless to say, they looked out of this world! From Deepika to Aishwarya, here’s a look at how these celebrity brides combined traditional attire with their own personal style to create iconic big day looks.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma looked every inch a traditional bride at her Delhi Wedding Reception. Dressed and styled by the one and only Sabyasachi, Anushka looked radiant in the vibrant red Banarsi sari. I personally loved the addition of the red sindoor as it brought the whole look of a ‘newlywed bride’ together.  

Deepika Padukone

Just like myself, many were impressed when megastar Deepika Padukone chose to wear a luxurious gold weave Kanjeevaram sari. The sari was gifted to Deepika by her mother, which was bought from the family’s favourite heirloom sari store, Angadi Galleria. Deepika's sari held its own grandeur and will most definitely go down in Bollywood history of iconic bridal looks.

Vidya Balan looks effortless in a sari and has always been someone who wears heritage and culture with pride. Unlike other brides, Vidya chose a simple attire for her wedding day. She wore a red Banarasi sari by Sabysachi and looked truly stunning.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Veteran designer, Neeta Lulla, designed the stunning Kanjeevaram sari for Aishwarya’s big day. It was one of the most expensive saris to be worn by an actress at the time. With a lavish gold weave border encrusted with individually placed Swarovski crystals, the 6-yard drape reportedly cost a whopping £75,000!

Shilpa Shetty Kundra

When it comes to donning a sari, Shilpa Shetty Kundra never disappoints and her wedding day was no different. Designed by the top-notch designer, Tarun Tahiliani, Shilpa wore a red and maroon print sari encrusted with around eight thousand Swarovski crystals. She completed her look with kundan jewellery and uncut diamonds.
